Guitar
15 years self-taught — from Guitar Hero to the real thing
I'm a self-taught guitarist who's been playing for 15 years. I was really good at Guitar Hero and got sick of people asking me to play to show off — I thought it was lame and wanted to learn the real thing. I grew up playing saxophone, but guitar was something I always wanted to tackle, so I bought my first one — an Ibanez Acoustic/Electric — and went to work.
I used every resource I could: the internet, classes at college, playing with friends. I didn't play as much for a number of years, but COVID and working from home brought me back hard. I played so much that I bought my first new guitar in years — a Teton dreadnought that was the best sounding of everything I tried in the shops. A fantastic-sounding instrument really catapulted my playing. My daughter loves it, and I love making music.
